How do I know if I need to use FINITEC Shock treatment before applying FINITEC Restorer on my floor? |
| |
In doubt on what was used to clean your floor, you should use the FINITEC shock treatment. In fact, the FINITEC Restorer will not properly adhere if wax, oily or soapy residues were left on your floor by multi-purpose cleaning products. I clean my floor with FINITEC cleaning kit and the mop leaves some streaks. Why ? |
| |
FINITEC mop is specifically designed to retain dust and dirt. Usually, marks are created by the dust and dirt that remain on the mop cover. It is therefore very important to regularly wash the mop cover in the washing machine. If you have a quite large floor, you'll find useful to buy some replacement mop covers. |

I clean my floor with water and vinegar, is it acceptable? |
| |
Water and vinegar are two things to absolutely avoid for the upkeep of your hardwood floors. First of all, too much water will cause your floor to warp, blacken and it will even affect its finish. As for vinegar, it is an oxidizing product that will dull the finish and tarnish your floor. |

I waxed my floor and I cleaned it with a multi-purpose cleaner. I heard you do not recommend these products. Why? |
| |
The multi-purpose cleaners leave a small film on the surface, which retains dust, and eventually tarnish the floor. Moreover, the use of those kinds of products will make future sanding and restoring jobs even harder. |

My
hardwood floor or parquet floor is so worn-out that
there are grey spots in heavy traffic areas. What
can I do ? |
| |
When the floor becomes black or grey, it means there is no more finish on these specific areas and the wood is no longer protected. In this case, you need to completely sand to remove all black or grey spots and then apply one of FINITEC’s finishes. |

I have a couple year-old floor that turned yellow and I need to change a broken plank. How can I give the new plank the same yellowish color than the rest of the floor has? |
| |
Generally, the floors that tend
to be yellowish have been done with an oil-based
finish. The product Age-Tech, by Finitec Canada,
reproduces the same yellow tone. Your last step
is to finish the replacement plank with one of the
Fini-tech finishes. |

What
is the difference between water-based and solvent-based
floor finishes ? |
| |
Both water-based and solvent-based finishes are made of urethane. During application, water or solvent evaporates and allow the urethane molecules to merge and form a coat of finish. The solvents liberated in the air are toxic for your health and the environment. For this reason and because of the odour, you have to leave your house for a few days. The advantage of using a water-based finish is that there is no nasty smell and drying is much more rapid than a solvent-based finish (2-4 hours instead of 12 or more). |
