Cerami-Tech Installation Technical sheets

Finitec Cleaner General Remarks : Installation Ceramic Flooring Membrane

Quick and easy installation

Cerami-Tech can be used for renovation or new construction over wood or concrete structures. Designed for double glued-down installations. Light, easy to unroll and to cut and does not create floor elevation.

Installation advantages

Easily cut with regular scissors and free of lint
Easy and even unreeling of the roll
Soft on hands and knees
Membrane does not need to meet room temperature before installation
Tear resistant

Follow carefully the thin-set and grout manufacturers recommendations

Thin-set
Use a polymer-modified 2 components mortar for better results.

Grout
Use a polymer-modified hydraulic tile grout for better results.

Preparation

Subfloor preparation

Thoroughly clean the concrete or the wooden surface: remove all grease, grit and wood particles. Correct any imperfection of the subfloor in accordance with general surface preparation procedures.

Before membrane installation

Aluminized side must be installed face up to reflect temperature back into the room.

Can be cut with a retractable blade or scissors (figure 2).

Make sure the membrane is installed at right angle with the floor covering.

Allow an extra percentage to prevent losses caused by the cutting of the membrane, angles and closets.

Prevent tranfer of sound by vibrations

To assure maximum soundproofing performance, it is very important to :

  • Leave a space between the wall and the floor covering (expansion space) to prevent the transfer of vibrations (figure 1).
  • Do not install moldings directly on the floor covering, leave the space of a cardboard to prevent the transfer of vibrations.

Finitec Cleaner Glued-down installation :

Choice of adhesive

We suggest the use of the rubber based adhesive AD-316 to obtain maximum soundproofing results. The adhesive is solvent-free, VOC compliant and odorless. It can also be used to glue down engineered floors.

If you choose to glue down the membrane with an appropriate waterbased adhesive, you must wait at least 24 to 48 hours before installing the floor covering. This delay is necessary for water evaporation. A premature installation can cause the floor covering to warp. You must evaluate conditions prior to installation. Urethane adhesive can also be used.

Step by step :

1. Cover the whole surface with the membrane. Seams must be joined together and must not leave any uncovered surface.

2. Begin along the wall. Fold lengthwise to uncover the subfloor against the wall (figure 3).

3. Spread adhesive on the uncovered part.

4. Unfold over the glued part of the subfloor.

5. Repeat until the whole surface is entirely done.

6. Make sure seams are joined together and glued to the subfloor (figure 4). It is not necessary to seal the seams with an adhesive tape.

7. Roll the installed membrane with a 75 -100 lbs roller to make sure the tranfer of adhesive is done properly (figure 5).

8. Proceed with floor covering installation.
