Odorless and
non toxic

Fini-tech finishes are environmentally
friendly and healthy for the occupants so, no need to leave the house during the application. They are low VOC (VOC are atmospheric pollutants that deteriorate air quality).

A good preparation is the key to a successful application. The final result depends on the cleaning and sanding of your piece of wood.

Cleaning

Step 1
CLEANING

Be sure the surface is free from oily or greasy residues or wax. It is recommended to properly clean the surface with a degreaser cleaner such as Fini-tech Surface Treatment.

A good cleaning eases the sanding and the scouring.

Note: If you use a scouring solution, it is very important to properly neutralize the surface before applying the finish.

Sanding

Step 2
SANDING

  • If possible, sand completely following wood grain using a 120 grit sandpaper (do not use steel wool). A good sanding assures a smooth surface and a good adherence.
  • Remove dust completely using damp towels in order to not leave any residues in the finish.
  • It is recommended to use a sanding block for flat surfaces.

Recoating (restoration):

For recoating, buff the finish using a 120 grit sandpaper in order to remove entirely the shine of the previous finish (top coat). Eliminate dust and apply 2 coats of varnish.

Stain, paint & faux-finish

Step 3
STAIN, PAINT & FAUX-FINISH

Follow manufacturer's recommendations for the application of stain and faux-finish. Generally, before applying the finish, the drying time of water based stains is 24 hours and 48 hours for oil based stains. Fini-tech finishes are compatible with the majority of water and oil based products. Proceed first to an adherence test.

Application

Step 4
APPLICATION

Application must be done at room temperature between 21° and 25° C (70° and 77° F) and at a relative humidity of 45%.

Bare wood:

  1. Apply on a dry and clean bare wood (see SANDING).
  2. Proceed to an adherence, color and compatibility test by reproducing jobsite application conditions and methods.
  3. Apply 3 to 4 coats of the chosen Fini-tech finish with the following application method:

    1. Shake the finish vigorously for 45 seconds and let stand 10 minutes to allow bubbles to break. In order to provide a homogeneous finish, use a clean stick.
    1. If possible, spread a uniform coat following wood grain (do the whole application following the same direction) using the applicator. Smooth out marks and lines on the finish for a uniform application.
    2. Allow 2 to 3 hours of drying between coats (may vary according to conditions).
    3. Sand between coats using a 180 grit sandpaper.
    4. Do not sand before the last coat if the time between applications does not exceed 3 hours.
    5. Clean tools with water.

Recoating (restoration):

Appropriate for the majority of oil or water based finishes. It is important to remove completely all shine of the wood (top coat). Apply 1 or 2 coats of the chosen Fini-tech finish with the following application method.

APPLICATOR

Choice of the right applicator:

brush, foam brush,
Fini-tech finish applicator or a roll

QUICK TIPS

  • Work during daylight to avoid any imperfections.
  • In order to prevent warp, apply at least one coat on every surface, even inside the drawers.
  • To prevent marks and bubbles, apply finish until a wet look is acheived. Use a new applicator and keep an angle of 45°. Follow recommended drying time between coats.
  • For furniture and woodworks maintenance, use Fini-tech cleaning products.
  • Use Finitec felt pads to protect the finish from decorative furniture.
