I would like to recoat my floors without leaving the house for days. Is this possible?
Yes.  Fini-tech water based finishes are odorless and non toxic, so you don’t have to leave the house.  In fact, Fini-tech water based finishes dry so quickly that you can recoat your floors in only one day.

What is the difference between water based finish and solvent based finish (known as oil based finish)?
The solvents in the oil based finishes are a sort of carrier for the ingredients that constitute the finish (ex: urethane) and are released in the air during the application and throughout the drying time, leaving only the finish on the floor. In addition to being harmful to your health, they release an unpleasant odor. These solvents are harmful to the environment because they contain large amounts of VOC, which also forces you to leave your home for several days. Furthermore, the water contained in the water based finishes also carries these ingredients, but as it is water, drying takes the form of evaporation. The water that evaporates during the application and throughout the drying period is safe for you and your family. You do not need to leave your home because there is a low level of VOC. Moreover, water based finishes dry much faster than oil based finishes, which allows you to perform the job in only one day. Choosing a water based finish does not mean skimping on performance. In the case of Fini-tech water based finishes, their performance exceeds oil based products.

Your finishes contain what amount of VOC?
All Fini-tech finishing products meet the most severe environmental standards.

Can I apply your finishes over an old oil based finish?
Yes. Fini-tech finishes are ideal for recoating over water or oil based finishes.

Can I recoat my floors without sanding?
Yes.  Fini-tech finishes can be applied over all types of finishes, just slightly roughen the surface before using it. Please refer to our "Restoration" section for more information on recoating floors without sanding.

My hardwood or parquet floor has gray spots. What can I do?
Gray or black wood indicates that no finish remains at this place and that the wood is no longer protected against moisture or dirt. The surface must be completely sanded to remove all gray spots.  Then apply the Fini-tech finish of your choice.

How can we test the finish's resistance?
The Taber test does this the hard way.  An instrument called an abrasiometer inflicts a continual friction to the finish with an abrasive disk. The tested sample is weighed before and after the test in order to measure its loss of mass. Tested by the independent laboratory Industrial Research Center of Quebec (CRIQ – Centre de Recherches Industrielles du Québec). For more information, you can refer to «Test» page in the Finishing section on our website.

Will your polish turn yellow over time?
The urethane resins used in the manufacture of Fini-tech finishes are "aliphatic" type, which means the color won’t spoil.

Can I apply your finishes on furniture?
Yes. Follow the steps in furniture finishes.

I used scouring solution on my cabinet, can I apply your finish safely?
Yes. First, you have to neutralize the scouring solution with methyl hydrate. Then, follow the instructions of your scouring solution manufacturer.

Do your finishes resist to heat?
Yes. You can apply Fini-tech finishes on furniture, woodworks, and surfaces suitable to heat such as dinner tables or fireplace mantels.

Can I use your finishes outdoors?
No. Fini-tech finishes are designed for indoor use only.

Can I apply your finishes on kitchen or bathroom panel cabinets?
Yes. Fini-tech furniture and woodwork finishes resist to moisture and are easy to maintain.

Can I use your finishes on stained wood?
Yes. You can use Fini-tech finishes with water or oil based stains. It is important to follow the stain manufacturer drying time to ensure proper adhesion of the finish.

Can I apply your finish on a cork floor?
Yes. Just follow the same instructions than a wood floor; degreasing, roughening, finishing.

Can I use a roller to apply your finishes?
Yes. You can use a 10 mm roller to apply the Fini-Tech 3000, Synergy and Aspect.
