FAQ

Floor

  1. What is the difference between Finitec finishes?

The main difference between FINITEC finishing is their resistance to abrasion. The most resistant of our finishes is the 9000, characterized by an adding of aluminum oxide.

  2. I would like to recoat my floors without leaving the house for days. Is this possible?

Yes. FINITEC water based finishes are odorless and nontoxic, so you don’t have to leave the house. In fact, FINITEC water based finishes dry so quickly that you can recoat your floors in only one day.

  3. What is the difference between water based finish and solvent based finish (known as oil based finish)?

The solvents in the oil based finishes are a sort of carrier for the ingredients that constitute the finish (ex: urethane) and are released in the air during the application and throughout the drying time, leaving only the finish on the floor. In addition to being harmful to your health, they release an unpleasant odor. These solvents are harmful to the environment because they contain a large amount of VOC, which also forces you to leave your home for several days.

Furthermore, the water contained in the water based finishes also carries these ingredients, but as it is water, drying takes the form of evaporation. The water that evaporates during the application and throughout the drying period is safe for you and your family. You do not need to leave your home because water based finishes contain a low level of VOC. Moreover, water based finishes dry much faster than oil based finishes, which allows you to perform the job in only one day. Choosing a water based finish does not mean skimping on performance. In the case of FINITEC water based finishes, their performance exceeds oil based products.

  4. What is the VOC content of your finishes?

  7. My hardwood or parquet floor has gray spots. What can I do?

Gray or black wood indicates that no finish remains at this place and that the wood is no longer protected against moisture or dirt. The surface must be completely sanded to remove all gray spots. Then you can apply the FINITEC finish of your choice.

  8. How can we test the finish's resistance?

The Taber test does this the hard way. An instrument called an abrasiometer inflicts a continual friction to the finish with an abrasive disk. The tested sample is weighed before and after the test in order to measure its loss of mass. Less mass lost means greater resistance.

  9. Will your finishes turn yellow over time?
